The Salers breed is a continental breed originating in the mountainous region of France, first imported to Canada in 1973.
They are mahogany red or black in color and have very heavy hair coats. Females would weigh approximately 1450 lbs; mature bulls 2300.
They are renowned for calving ease, birthing vigorous newborns, producing ample, rich milk supply and having excellent reproductive performance.
In the feedlot, they produce high yielding and optimally marbled carcasses.
